Leland Sklar 2017

Leland Sklar

Los Angeles, United States

A prominent figure among Hollywood's best bassists, Leland Bruce Sklar musical career goes back to the 1970s with more than 2000 albums to his credit. His bass has been heard in the songs of musicians such as Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Clint Black, Reba McEntire, George Strait among many others.

Sklar met James Taylor at the end of the 1960s while doing some gigs and remained as a member of his backing band. While he worked together so frequently with drummer Russ Kunkel, guitarist Danny Kortchmar, and keyboardist Craig Doerge, the group would later merge into "The Section." It was then that the band started to support other artists, such as Jackson Browne, and recorded three albums before parting ways in 1978.

After "The Section," Sklar started working on more sessions and live performances, such as the album and tour No Jacket Required with Phil Collins, as well as ...But Seriously in 1989, Finally… The First Farewell Tour (2004–2005), and the Not Dead Yet Tour (2017–2019).

Sklar also did the Falling In Between Tour with Toto in 2007–2008, filling in for his friend Mike Porcaro.

In 2018, reuniting several members of “The Section,” a new group was formed, The Immediate Family, with Leland Sklar on bass, Russ Kunkel on drums, Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Wachtel on guitars and vocals, and musician/producer Steve Postell on vocals and guitar.
