Macarena Montesinos

Spain

Cellist, improviser, performer, visual artist and researcher. She graduated in Fine Arts and is currently a research teaching staff at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Vigo, where she studies the relationship and correspondences that exist between graphic scores and sound improvisation.

Artist with a long career, member of different contemporary and experimental music groups and orchestras, such as the Fonogenia trio or the Suelen Estar Quartet, with which he presented, at the CGAC, his latest proposal, the interpretation of the composer's Treatise graphic score. British Cornelius Cardew. Member of the directed improvisation orchestra, Orquestra Galega de Liberación, with which they have just released their first album, member of the OMEGa Orchestra and the HALO and Metamovida collective. Today she has a dozen albums published on European and American record labels such as Creative Sources (Portugal), Pan y Rosas (USA) or Setola de Maiale (Italy).

In the performing arts, she has been working for more than fifteen years in the sound space of theater and contemporary dance shows by the choreographers Mercé de Rande, Mónica García, Ánxela Blanco, Olga Cameselle and Nuria Sotelo. She develops creations and research with the help of various artistic residencies at the Tanzhaus, Zürich, Casa Dimitri, Verscio, Switzerland) at Azala Espazio de Creación in Álava.

In the field of action art, apart from collaborating with artists such as María Roja, Berio Molina, Alba Blanco and Ana Matey, she developed several solo actions such as Una y 2 Sillas and the performative conference, Memorias dunha Amnésica. The latter created in 2020 and presented within the Discourses in Action cycle, at the Númax cinema, in Santiago de Compostela and at the Manolo Paz Foundation. In July of this year 2021, she will participate with this piece at the Spanish Academy in Rome, within the Anno Zero Festival , curated by Pablo Fidalgo, in Rome.

Likewise, she has worked on the composition and interpretation of soundtracks in Galician audiovisual productions such as 9Fugas directed by Fon Cortizo, winner of the Mestre Mateo award for best soundtrack and winner of best film ex-aequo at the 2020 Xixón Festival. He also participated in Sea Beasts, by Felipe González, and Linko. At the state level, in 2019, in Sitges, they presented the short Cariño, by Ángel Gómez, in which she participated as a performer alongside the composer Xesús Díaz.
