Betinho Feijó

Angola

Alberto Cardoso de Andrade Feijó aka “Betinho Feijó,” was born in Luanda, Angola on October 26, 1960 and is the son of Caetano da Silva Feijó and Madalena Augusta Cardoso de Andrade Feijó.

Since the age of five years old, Feijó felt a great desire for music. At that age he already imagined himself as a professional guitarist and started building guitars made from sweet olive oil cans, wooden necks and fishing wire strings. Whenever he could, he attended parties in his neighborhood of Rangel, where he took the opportunity to watch the greatest guitarists of the time.

At the age of 10 Feijó formed his first group called Tópicos do Ritmo, where he tried to perform the best songs of the time and it was at that time that his brother Palão offered him his first semi-professional guitar.

In 1975, he was part of the OPA Musical Group and a year later, joined the group “Os Dipandas” where he gained a lot of experience and began to enter the world of musical professionalism.

Since 1976, Feijó has been involved in numerous groups including: Rhythm Topics, Conjunto os Dipandas, Revolutionary Youth, Africa Njonze, Luanda Selection, Black Diamonds, Experimental 1º de Maio and Banda Dionísio Rocha, the Merengues, among others.

Between 1977 and 1980, he studied at the Luanda Music Academy and in 1983 he joined the Os Merengues ensemble, where he remained until 1993, when the ensemble ended and forced him to try a new apprenticeship, choosing Portugal because of the references he had from some musicians who lived there and also because of the ease of the language.

In Portugal from 1993 onwards, Feijó worked with Mabucos, Afro Sound Star, Kussondolola, Katió 2000, Semba 7, Dizoma, Justino Delgado, Cacaio, Netos de Gumbé and Carlos Có (Guinea), Fortinho, Lura, Os Melodee and Vaiss ( Cape Verde), Tonito, Milá Melo, Emitério Varelo, Duali Jair, Aiaia, Nani, Dom Caetano, Dom Kikas, Maya Cool, Bangão, Elias Dia kimuezo, Eduardo Paim, Milá Melo, DJ Nelo Dias, Tropical Band, As Gingas, Banda Maravilha, Ral Ouro Negro, Filipe Mukenga, Nelo de Carvalho, Matias Damasio, Kyaku Kyadaff, Ary, Yuri da Cunha, Paulo Flores, Chico Viegas, Nelo de Carvalho, Os Garimpeiros, Dog Murras, Kizua Gourgell, Dias Rodrigues, Karina Barbosa , Lopito Feijó, Deusa, Galiano Neto, Mindo Monteiro, Virgul, Boto, Tito Paris, André Kabaço, Mário Garnacho, Nanuto, Ana Moura, Calózinho, Beto Monteiro, Seco Kamará, Mago, Trindade, Diabiki, Ineida Marta, Manecas Costa, Proletário, Zé Ma, Semba Masters, Jovens do Hungo, Té Macedo, Pedrito, Yola Semedo, Nelo Paim, Belera, Simons Massimi, Ivan Alekxei, Miguel Yamba, Yola Semedo, Ary, Titia, Joãozinho Morgado, Gabriel Tchiema, Nino jazz, Mario Gomes, Dodó Miranda, Texas, Kiaco Kadaf, Pierre Akandengue, Nena (French), Jacob Desvarieux, Bonga, etc.
