Mahamadou is a Malian musician who descend of a "griot" family that plays music since the 13h Century. His father was a great kora player and his brother Toumani is actually the best kora player in the world. Mahamadou grew up in a musical environment and studied music during five years at the INA ( National Institute of Arts in Bamako). He travelled several times to Europe to perform with his band. Mahamadou worked with us on the all process of the creation of the school. He is now the creative director of the school, musical theory and percussion teacher and manager of the musical instruments workshop.
Mahamadou contacted PFC in the beginning of 2009. He informed us that he was a percussionist living in Bamako, Mali, and was very excited to tell us about a village named Kirina that was located about 80 kilometers outside of Bamako that is the source of all West African. He was extremely passionate about the possibility of the Playing For Change Foundation building a music school in Kirina, and over the course of the following year that possibility became a reality!
